STUDENT PROFILE

Prague Film School is open to applicants of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds. Applicants are evaluated on the basis of merit and creative potential.

Production experience is not a requisite for getting admitted, but of course welcome. Students applying to Prague Film School come from a wide-spectrum of backgrounds, from the professional filmmaker to the initiate.

image

Applicant Categories at Prague Film School:

1) advanced filmmakers who may have already completed degree filmmaking programs back home and who have already made festival-level or professional film products;

2) theater actors, acting conservatory graduates without formal training or experience in acting for film;

3) intermediate applicants who have significant production experience as autodidacts or work in a film-related area but who have received little to no formal training.

4) applicants with a background in cinema theory, acting, media studies, journalism, humanities who have not yet had any production experience but who demonstrate a history of interest in film.

We welcome applications from motivated, independent and hardworking individuals. Students are in class 6-8 hours per day and are also busy with homework, shooting and writing scripts. During production periods, which constitute 20-30 days per semester, shooting may last up to 12-14 hours/daily. Studies are very intensive and demanding and require a high level of personal discipline.

Acceptance Notification

Students are notified about acceptance within 10 - 21 days from the designated application deadline. Students applying from non European or North American countries are encouraged to apply at least 4 months prior to the start of their desired programs to ensure student visas are issued in time.

Submitting Applications

All application materials can be submitted via Internet. Applicants are advised, however, to check by telephone to make sure that application was received.

Students applying to semester or year programs are requested to respond to two essay questions on the application form and to provide a sample creative portfolio. Semester and year students are also encouraged to provide two letters of recommendation.

It is my pleasure to invite you and your students to see the first ever English language production from JARA CIMRMAN, the "literary giant of the Czech stage". It's is an amazing opportunity for your students to be introduced to Czech culture, humor and history, all while laughing for two hours straight!

The show, THE STAND-IN (Zaskok), performed by professional, native English-speaking actors, is produced by the same company that produces the iconic Czech versions and has the blessing of Zdenek Sverak himself!

THE STAND-IN is not only a great translation of the original, but it is also played in the original theatre (Zizkovske Divadlo Jary Cimrmana), using the original sets, props and costume design. The experience of being in the theatre as close to the original production as possible ... without needing to speak Czech! This distinctly Czech humor has been out of reach for all but the most fluent of foreigners. Until now!

Cimrman, a fictional character created by Sverak and Ladislav Smoljak, was voted the most important Czech in history in a poll by Czech TV in 2005. His work defines the Czech character and humor. He is a cultural touchstone much the same way Monty Python is for English speakers. And it's just as funny!

We are bringing The Stand-In to the stage for 2 performances left in June:
June 25 and 26 all at 19:00.

Tickets for this one-of-a-kind experience can be ordered through the theater box office online at www.zdjc.cz or in person:

Zizkovske Divadlo Jary Cimrmana
Štítného 5, Prague 3 (take tram #5, 9 or 26 to Husinecká)
